For computers which do not have a suitable GPU, you can still use the software.
Software Render mode is where the CPU will be used to render the 3D View.
It is slower performance but allows computers without a compatible GPU to run.
It should be enabled by default when no GPU is detected, but in cases where a weak GPU is detected and it is not automatically enabling Software Render Mode you can manually enable it.
From your software menu Edit -- Options -- 3D view settings -- Use software render -- Yes
This will restart the software.
This mode can also help in cases where there is an emulated GPU which is causing graphical oddities, such as when using Parallels on a MacOS system.
